From the bride: I wanted my wedding day to be personal. I wanted each and every part of my day to be touched by me or one of my sisters… from the stationery to the flowers to the pennants hanging at the sweet table. My mom, sister and I even tea-dyed lace runners for the tables a few days before the wedding! I also wanted to make sure my wedding felt different. I didn’t want the traditional round tables; I wanted a long table that was the length of the room.
My planning process: I was actually inspired by a few pieces of vintage (silver) trays, vases, and plates that were loaned to me by a friend. These became my base or main piece for the centerpieces that I had imagined. I got the big things done first; location, venue, catering, photographer, officiant, and DJ. Then I spent the months before the big day gathering my decor items. I scoured thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, resale shops, and clearance sections of big box stores, searching for pieces I wanted to use. I had a Pinterest page where I pinned ideas and got inspiration. During the wedding, many friends and family told me that the wedding “was totally me” which is exactly what I wanted it to be.
My wedding location: Promontory Point was important to me because it was truly a one of a kind location. It is a Chicago Park District venue that is on a “point” that juts out onto Lake Michigan. The feeling is loose, casual and natural. Its not stuffy or snobby. The park is open to the public so park goers were still welcome around the venue, which I thought added to the ambiance. It was also one of the first locations I had looked at when we first got engaged. A few years later we actually moved to the Hyde Park neighborhood so I knew it was meant to be!
